He was nothing more than an experiment to his father and unwanted by his mother who was raped and forced to carry the child that resulted from it. Subaru’s conception was only for the sake of Karlheinz having a child born from incest. He has been shown to be affectionate, protective and dare I say caring, though he doesn’t exactly show it in a unicorns and rainbows kinda way. He is violent, rude and possessive but has many more redeeming qualities than some of his other brothers. Although he is a tsundere (definition: rugged exterior but is actually a cinnamon roll deep down), Subaru is a sadist and is very abusive towards Yui/the heroine.
He serves as an antagonist/anti-hero to Yui in the Diabolik Lovers franchise but is, in my opinion, closer to an anti-hero, even in Haunted Dark Bridal which is considerably darker than the other games in the franchise. Subaru is the youngest son of Karlheinz, the Vampire King and his third wife and first cousin Christa. For this post I will be following Haunted Dark Bridal’s backstory for Christa. Like all of his brothers he barely had a fighting chance from the time he was born, or in his case, before he was even born. Subaru was raised to hate himself and knew himself as nothing but an abomination that could only destroy.
